High Park Fire and Mountain Pine Beetle Mortality

This map relates the rapidly growing High Park Fire to damage caused to forests in Northern Colorado by the Mountain Pine Beetle. Dead stands of trees across the region and across the North American West can be easily ignited by lightening strikes. Fire spreads rapidly and easily through unhealthy forests, and areas with densely packed "beetle kill" trees. Also see geogcommons.com/maps/179635.html
