Civilian labor force and unemployment by State, United States, 1/5/2010

Civilian labor force and unemployment by state and metropolitan area

1 Area boundaries do not reflect official OMB definitions.

p = preliminary.

NOTE: Data refer to place of residence. Data for Puerto Rico are derived from a monthly household survey similar to the Current

Population Survey. Area definitions are based on Office of Management and Budget Bulletin No. 09-01, dated November 20, 2008, and are

available at http://www.bls.gov/lau/lausmsa.htm. Areas in the six New England states are Metropolitan New England City and Town Areas

(NECTAs), while areas in other states are county-based. Some metropolitan areas lie in two or more states. They are listed under the

state that appears first in their titles. Davenport-Moline-Rock Island, Iowa-Ill., and Weirton-Steubenville, W.Va.-Ohio, are the

exceptions in that they are listed under Illinois and Ohio, respectively, for operational reasons. Estimates for the latest month are

subject to revision the following month.
